about

The Guembri player Mehdi Nassouli is the future of Gnawa music and, along with his desire to preserve traditional Moroccan music, has managed to fuse the music he loves with Jazz, Classical and Pop. No more so than on Sahara Koyo, created in collaboration with Marmoucha Orchestra.
Mehdi lists collaborations with a variety of artists including Herbie Hancock, Fatoumata Diawara, Alpha Blondy and Nneka in his impressive CV.
As well as playing the Guembri on Sahara Koyo Mehdi contributes his amazing vocal style, plays Krakebs, Taarija and Ghaita and provides compositions and arrangements along with Marmoucha’s Artistic Director Avishai Darash and arrangers Maripepa Contreras, Arin Keshishi and Oene Van Geel.
Sahara Koyo is destined to be one of those 'you need this' albums and both Marmoucha Orchestra and Mehdi Nassouli are both destined to hit stellar status because of it.
